Raw materials base of the Northern Works is represented by two open pits – Pervomayskyi and Annovskyi ones. 3 crushing plants, 2 enrichment plants, 2 pelletizing shops are included as compounds of the refining complex.
Mining Complex
Pervomayskyi pit is one of the biggest pits in Ukraine. Projected depth of the pit is 650 meters. Today the pit is 2.5 thousand meters wide and more than 3 thousand meters long. The depth of the pit is 400 meters. Its lower horizon is on the mark – (285) meters.
Annovskyi pit. Projected annual capacity of the pit is 10.0 Mtonnes of iron ore (the depth of the pit has reached 275 meters, its width makes 1.2 thousand meters and its length is 5.250 thousand meters).
Processing Complex
CP-1. Ore crushing which is delivered from CP-2 and CP-3 takes place at Crushing Plant No.1.
CP-2. The ore from Annovskyi pit passes the first stage of crushing and then is delivered to CP-1. Crushing of overburden rocks for breakstone production also takes place.
CP-3. Cyclical conveyer technology. Ore delivery from -115 meters at Pervomayskyi pit to +68 meters is carried out by means of cyclical conveyer technology. Due to its implementation the distance of trucks tramming was shortened, the quantity of pick-and-place platforms decreased already in the first quarter of 2007. This allowed broadening the front of mining operations, enlarging the amounts of ore production and reducing energy usage.
Enrichment plant No.1 (EP-1). Crushed ore passes three stages of breakage and benefication on magnetic roughers.
Enrichment plant No.2 (EP-2). The concentrate produced at EP-1 passes desliming and filtration.
Pelletizing shops No. No. 1 and 2 (PS-1,2) make a complex production which includes departments of car dumper, storehouses of bentonite and limestone, departments of crushing and breakage of additives (limestone and bentonite), banker of concentrate, departments of loading bunkers pelletizing, burning and trommeling; pellets storehouse; department of exhaust fans, gas treatment section.
