Metinvest supports the development of non-governmental organizations in Ukraine

22 November 2013

Metinvest Group sponsored the II Organizational Development Forum on 21-22 November in Kyiv.

The Forum is the largest platform in Ukraine on the key standards and practices for the development of non-governmental organizations and strengthening their organizational ability.

This year the event hosted nearly 350 representatives of business and regulatory agencies, public activists and human rights advocates from 10 countries. Participants attended organizational development workshop sessions and trainings conducted by leading Ukrainian and foreign trainers.

Metinvest participated in a panel discussion on the opportunities for cooperation between business and non-governmental organizations. Representatives of the Company shared their experience with non-commercial partnerships and told about joint social projects being implemented in cities where Metinvest assets are located. For example, non-profit organizations proactively participate in Metinvest's "We Improve the City" corporate social program aimed at increasing living standards in industrial regions.

Polina Shaganenko, head of the Sustainable Development and Organizational Support Department in Metinvest Group:

"The key to success in partnerships between business and non-governmental organizations is to have a common vision of the problem and a willingness to pool resources and responsibility for the solution. The most important thing for our Company is that partners share our goals, provide knowledge and experience, and can work diligently. Partnerships for us are not a consulting service. They are about working toward the same goal."

The II Organizational Development Forum was organized by the Initiative Centre that provides promotional activities and develops the public "Yednannia" initiative with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The event was financially supported by the Government of Sweden, the United Nations Development Program, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, "Communities Fund School" program, Mott Foundation, the International Foundation Vidrodzhennya and Metinvest Group.
